Our Challenge Quilt Theme is
AmericanaCelebrate the colors, stories, and spirit of America—one stitch at a time
Create a quilt that reflects American history, culture, landscapes, or symbolism. Traditional, modern, abstract, or narrative designs are all welcome.
All quilts should capture the essence of Americana, drawing inspiration from the diverse tapestry of American experiences. Let your creativity shine by weaving together personal stories, regional influences, or iconic motifs that reflect what America means to you. 
Must include at least ONE Americana element
Cultural/historical imagery
Stars, stripes
Traditional American blocks
Red‑white‑blue palette
Any technique is allowed:
Piecing
Applique 
Embroidery
Mixed media
Quilt must include:
Top, batting, backing and binding
Quilted, machine or hand 
Size categories:
Minimum 72” (all sides)
Maximum 160” (all sides)
Round 40” diameter maximum 
Important dates:
Entry online or by mail
Deadline:   September 1, 2026
.Drop‑off challenge quilt:  September 12th or 13th, between 10am-4pm,  Educational Building, Walla Walla Fair Grounds.
Pick-up challenge quilt: September 19th between 6-7pm, Community Building, Walla Walla Fair Grounds.
A short artist statement of 20-50 words is required on the registration form that explains how your quilt illustrates “Americana”.

Join us in celebrating creativity, craftsmanship and the stories that make America unique. Is your mind whirling with the possibilities? Good!

Block ChallengeYour mission should you choose to accept it is to create a 12.5 x 12.5 unfinished (size matters!) quilt block using the following fabric in a substantial way. Fabric is Bloomology by Monica Forsberg by Free Spirit Fabrics and is available from Sarah Bergman: $2 for a fat eighth. Contact her at: 509.240.6826
