2026 Challenge Theme: Americana
Celebrate the colors, stories, and spirit of America—one stitch at a time
The Walla Walla Quilt Festival invites you to participate in our Americana Quilt Challenge, a creative showcase honoring American heritage, culture, and tradition. Whether your style is bold and patriotic or subtle and nostalgic, we want to see your interpretation of “Americana.”
Create a quilt that reflects American history, culture, landscapes, or symbolism. Traditional, modern, abstract, or narrative designs are all welcome.
All quilts should capture the essence of Americana, drawing inspiration from the diverse tapestry of American experiences. Let your creativity shine by weaving together personal stories, regional influences, or iconic motifs that reflect what America means to you.
Must include at least ONE Americana element
- Cultural/historical imagery
- Stars, stripes
- Traditional American blocks
- Red‑white‑blue palette
Any technique is allowed:
- Piecing
- Applique
- Embroidery
- Mixed media
Quilt must include:
- Top, batting, backing and binding
- Quilted, machine or hand
Size categories:
- Minimum 72” (all sides)
- Maximum 160” (all sides)
- Round 40” diameter maximum
A short artist statement of 20-50 words is required on the registration form that explains how your quilt illustrates “Americana”.
The decision of the judge(s) will be final. Cash prizes will be awarded:
- 1st place – $250.00
- 2nd place – $150.00
- 3rd place – $75.00.
- People’s Choice – Ribbon
Additional Instructions
- You may use any fabric(s) of your choice. The choices should reflect the theme of the Challenge: Americana.
- Items must have a CLOTH LABEL with a minimum of the quilter’s name, city, state and title of the entry and must be firmly attached to the back of the quilt bottom right corner (when facing your quilt.) A paper label is not acceptable
- Entry online or by mail Deadline: September 1, 2026
- Drop‑off challenge quilt: September 12th or 13th, between 10-4 PM, Educational Building, Walla Walla Fairgrounds
- Pick-up challenge quilt: September 19, between 6-7 PM, Community Building, Walla Walla Fairgrounds
