Walla Walla Valley
Quilt Festival 2009
On the way to our tenth anniversary......
It's hard to believe it's already June. The Quilt Festival is only a few months away. Do you want to show your prized quilt? Do you have a great idea for the challenge? What about the block challenge? (We have just a few pieces of challenge fabric left.)
If you can believe it, this year will be our tenth festival. So, our theme will be "Ten Years, Ten Colors." Start planning your challenge quilt to reflect this fun theme.
We will be at the Fairgrounds again next year, with the exhibition being from September 18-20th.
The committee is already planning all the activities, so check back often.
The Walla Walla Valley Quilt Festival is an annual celebration of quilting and quilters. A non-profit organization, it was founded in 1999 with the following goals as its vision:
| Promote public awareness and appreciation for the art or quilting and recognition of its heritage. | |
| Provide educational quilting opportunities | |
| Celebrate the social function of quilting | |
| Encourage people to visit the Walla Walla Valley |
The main activity of the Festival Guild is the Festival itself, taking place in late September each year. This multi-faceted event includes a downtown quilt walk, featuring displays in almost all the merchants' windows of beautiful quilts fashioned by local artisans. The weekend brings a huge exhibition with displays of quilts, one or more featured quilters, classes, contests, silent auctions, and a vendor mall.
There is something for everyone at the festival, whether you help with the planning and set-up, help sponsor the show with a contribution, volunteer during the show, enter one of the quilt challenges, or just come and enjoy the beauty of the quilts.
Thanks to everyone who helped make the 2008 Festival the best yet. We'll see you in September, 2009!! In the meantime, check back often to see our updates.
