2022 Nationally Featured Quilter
Modern Quilt Designer, Maker & Pattern Writer
A little bit about Heather, she's a single (widowed) mother of a beautiful little girl and sneak quilting in whenever possible. She's always been creative and began oil painting and watercolors at age 9. She continued to paint as an adult but never liked the clean up, especially cleaning her brushes, so she basically gave it up. She was starved for a creative outlet when her friend suggested they make quilts.
She began seriously quilting in the summer of 2011 and finished her first quilt in November 2011. She loved it instantly. Her only "training" was two semesters of home ec. in junior high and a brief quilting club in college, so she hit the web looking for tutorials on how to make a quilt. She worked through the piecing and sandwiching then began hand quilting. She had no idea that you could use a sewing machine to quilt so she hand quilted her first quilt, queen size. That was the last time she hand quilted an entire quilt. She now finish almost all her quilts on her longarm.
She chose the name quiltachusetts for her blog because that's what her late husband, Stephen, called her sewing room. He'd casually say, "are you going to quilt-achusetts?" and it stuck. At the time she thought it was a fun name and now she's very proud to use it for her blog. Stephen also bought her first 'real' sewing machine for their 6 month anniversary and it was at that point her love for quilting really took off.
About her designs, she's not a traditional quilter. She loves and respects the talent, time and creativity in traditional quilts but they look really odd mixed into her home decor. She's a modern to contemporary quilter and designer with a love for bold geometric designs.
She enjoys finding inspiration in unique places especially from subjects that make an impression on her. She knows all her talent comes from God and she hope that He will be glorified in all her quilts.
