WWVQF MAY 2020 NEWSLETTER

I am so happy to welcome the spring season! It is a joy to hear the birds chirping, and to marvel in the beautiful blooming flowers and trees, and to enjoy some good old yard work exercise!
Since my last letter, it is hard to accept and understand all that our nation and world have faced and seen. These times are without a doubt a testament to our faith and strength to protect one another. We have become clever in our ways to communicate with family and friends through more phone calls, texts, Zoom, Face time, and the like. I will not comment more, because the whole story is about bravery, strength and unending giving to protect and support one another, our country.
Hopefully, you have had more time for “lock-down stress relief” to enjoy more quilt making and mask making! Perhaps using up a lot of that fabric stash you’ve been wondering what to do with! Soon we’ll be able to get out and build up that stash again!

This gorgeous fabric was selected for our 2020 Quilt Block Challenge! It is dramatic with burnt red floral designs, then spots of illuminating glow! You will have a “fat “ 1/8th yard piece of fabric to design a 12 ½” by 12 ½” square block, adding your choice of additional fabric. The public will vote on their favorite block, and the winner will take home all the entered blocks to make a quilt. So, Folks, please enter to help the winner create something large and beautiful and hopefully bring it back to show off on another year!
This gorgeous quilt is the work of our featured national quilter, Heather Black. I love her quilting work and marvel at the steady and precise quilting she accomplishes to make her quilts spark!
And…it may ignite a spark of stimulation for those who will be creating their own expression for this years’ quilt challenge theme…”PORTALS.”
Please refer to the website for judging guidelines. This year’s theme for 2020 is “PORTALS.” The design can be any shape, but the combined total of all sides of the quilt cannot be less than 72” nor more than 160”.
Heather and Daisy are close friends and have written their first book together. Heather is currently writing her second book. It is delightful to listen to them share about their experiences as quilters on this new interview which became available April 29, 2020 on “The Quilters Circle.” I listen from my ipad. It is also available on YouTube.
I sincerely hope that you and your families are keeping well!
In concern that our country may not have all the steps in place, such as vaccines to help conquer the horrible affects of the Corona Virus, we are continually hopeful and planning for the 2020 Quilt Festival.
