Walla Walla Valley Quilt Festival, P. O. Box 1471, Walla Walla, WA 99362
September, 2008
COMING SOON:
Hi, Y’all! It’s really difficult for me to absorb that this is the first day of September. Where did the summer go?
AND….Two weeks from today (9/15) we will be hanging quilts in downtown Walla Walla for the 9th Annual Quilt Walk. They should all be in place for your viewing enjoyment on Tuesday, 9/16. This year we have 30+ locations for quilts in beautiful downtown Walla Walla. Be sure and tell the Quilt Hosts that you appreciate them. They will have maps that show the location of all the Quilt Hosts!
Then comes the “really BIG show” – the wonderful collage of area quilts that will be hung in our new digs at the Community Building, Walla Walla County Fairgrounds, 9th & Orchard Streets. We will have more than twice the amount of space and twice the number of vendors. And there will be a snack bar where you can get a bite to eat. Keri’s Catering will have cold snacks and beverages for your enjoyment.
QUILT TRANSPORTATION:
We also have three area quilt shops that are helping out by serving as collection points for quilts to be shown. If you would like to show a quilt, you may drop it off at the store closest to you, and one of our Festival Members will pick it up, and then return it after the show. What could be easier??? The participating shops are:
Hawthorne Gallery, 220 W. Patit
Dayton, WA. Ph 509-382-3137
Aunty Ida’s Quilt Shop, 435 W. Hermiston
Hermiston, OR 541-567-2726
Pendleton Quiltworks, 138 SE Court
Pendleton, OR 541-276-9546

THE “REALLY BIG SHOW”:
The Show at the Fairgrounds will be open for business on Friday. The hours for all three days (September 19, 20, and 21) are
10 AM to 5 PM. We do hope that you will come and bring all your friends and neighbors. There will be lots of beautiful quilts, hourly demonstrations and, definitely not to be forgotten, our featured professional quilter, Nancy Chong.
Nancy’s work is lovely and she will be available to visit with you. Nancy will also be doing a demonstration daily.
The Walla Walla Valley Quilt Guild has also given us a featured quilter, Carrie Fernald. Carrie has been quilting for a number of years and does lovely needlework as well. When she combines the two, the results are amazing. I know that you will enjoy seeing her work!
VOLUNTEER???
And we can always use more help! If you would like to get into the swing of the quilt show(s) and help out, please give our Volunteer Coordinator, Jan Eaton a call at 509-525-6278 or email at wileydave@charter.net
TIPS OF THE DAY:
When you are finding yourself trimming thread tails or (Heaven Forbid) ripping out some stitching, a small piece of batting is an excellent receptacle for the stray threads. For some reason they stick to it like glue. When you’re done, just toss the whole thing.
Foam Swim Pool Noodles which are about 2 ½” in diameter and up to 62” long make excellent foundations for rolling bindings, or even rolling quilts or projects in progress. If you need shorter, they are easily cut, don’t weigh all that much and are just handy to have around. A friend just told me they are available at the Dollar Store….

ALMOST THE END:
And now forgive me whilst I editorialize a bit. Each year for the past eight about this time I became a total basket case. But this year, I have a really good feeling about the show, the quilters and volunteers that all make it a success. I am totally convinced that the Ninth Year is going to be the best ever with many quality works to energize you. So, if you see me at the show (I’ll be wearing a name tag), and it may appear that I have “fallen off the wagon” grab me and remind me to smell the roses! I would love to meet each and every one of you!
